Ascalon wanted to create a space filled with 'symbiotic contradiction' in keeping with the motif of his Spindle table for Ligne Roset, a featured piece in the lounge. The temporary space incorporated subtle (as well as not so subtle) juxtapositions of styles, textures, materials and shapes throughout. With an extensive background in music composition, Ascalon took his environment one step further by collaborating with his brother Josh, a Brooklyn-based music producer, to compose an audio element of the installation entitled 'Ouroboros'. This 30 minute looping ambient soundscape, like the visible space, blurred elements of classical, modern, analog and digital with layered textures and melodies.
Custom pieces for the project included Broken/Fixed, a limited edition of five shattered mirrors made in Ascalon's New Jersey fabrication studio, and Service I, a white lacquered bar which features a shattered glass mosaic facade.
