Born outside of Philadelphia, PA (USA), Brad Ascalon was immersed in a world of art and design. His grandfather was a Hungarian-born sculptor and noted industrial designer, and his father is highly recognized for his large-scale art installations that can be found throughout North America. Ascalon received his Masters’ degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute in 2005. During that time, he held a number of apprenticeships, including one at the studio of Karim Rashid. That year, he was recognized by Wallpaper* Magazine as one of the "Ten Most Wanted” emerging designers in the world (July/August 2005).
In 2006, he founded Brad Ascalon Studio NYC and immediately acquired his first client, the cosmetics giant L’Oreal. Since then, Ascalon's multi-disciplinary design studio continues to specialize in the fields of furniture, packaging, consumer products, environment design and development, as well as site specific sound compositions and art projects. The studio engages in design and consultation for clients around the world, from large-scale manufacturers to smaller start-ups to private residential and commercial projects.
Ascalon’s work has been exhibited globally, from Milan’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the world’s largest stage for design, to Germany's IMM Cologne and the Maison d’Objet in Paris. In 2007, his work was featured as part of the ICFF Bernhardt Studio Design Exhibition, a high-profile juried competition that promotes emerging designers from across the globe. Soon after, he completed Spindle, his first project for Ligne Roset. Ascalon has the distinction of being one of only two American designers to ever have worked with the 150 year old French company. In May of 2010, Ascalon’s Pillar lounge chair launched at the ICFF with the American design house, Bernhardt Design, and he continues to work with some of the world’s top design brands. His work has been featured in such publications as Wallpaper*, New York Times, London Telegraph, Architectural Digest, Interior Design, Art Review, Surface, Dwell and many others.
