For NY Design Week 2010, designer Joe Doucet and Kid Robot's Chad Phillips organized The MunNY Exhibit. The duo invited 23 of NYC’s most innovative designers, including Ascalon, Jeffrey Bernett, Todd Bracher, Tobias Wong, Harry Allen and others to interpret Kid Robot’s iconic Munny character.
Ascalon partnered with Swarovski, the famed crystal manufacturer, to create Swarovski Munny, an object that speaks to the tension between the two materials involved: vinyl—nondescript, cheap, and extremely durable, and fine crystal— luxurious, costly and highly fragile.
Following the success of the exhibit, a selection from the original exhibition went on display, and for sale, at the Cappellini showroom in Soho. From there, Swarovski Munny sold to a private collector, the proceeds of which went to the Robinhood Foundation to help fight poverty in NYC.
